Guard Gates
In the event of a break in a canal
wall, guard gates can be lowered,
to prevent water from long stretches of the canal being released.
(to isolate the damaged section)
canal boats can travel under these gates when in the up position
They are used at the entrance and exit of the canal using a natural stream or river.
