THE CHARMS OF KOREA
According to popular belief, a piece of hand-made paper imprinted with a certain design can ward off misfortune and attract good luck. This is what we call “pujok”, a magic charm. Chinese charms are in block ink on red or yellow paper. Korean are almost always in vermillion ink on a white background. The Korean designs, also very different from those of other oriental charms, are highly stylized and artistic in their own unique way. There are dozens of them, each one for a specific purpose.... domestic happiness, success in business, prevention of fire, theft or illness, and many others answering a host of problems either real or imagined. Some are pasted inside the house over the front door while others are carried in pocket or purse. We hope that, whichever the case, one will keep this charm as a remembrance of the time they spent with us in Korea and that it will bring them good luck for o long time to come.
